Tea party activists across the state have called the Tea Party filing a sham, saying they suspect Democrats are trying to siphon votes away from conservative Republican candidates in tight races.
Tea party activists also note the group filing petitions used the services of a Lansing attorney with ties to Democrats and hired a California firm to circulate petitions that has been used in the past by the state Democratic Party.
Michigan Democratic Party officials deny any link to the group.
