Bing stands by Godbee despite sexual texts
Deputy Mayor Saul Green said today that he and Mayor Dave Bing are standing behind Interim Police Chief Ralph Godbee despite revelations that sexual text messages were sent between him and the former chief's girlfriend.

Green was shown text messages by Warren Evans' attorney in an effort to get the former police chief's job back or another role within the department. The mayor today could not be reached for comment. But his spokeswoman Karen Dumas stood by Green's comments and declined to answer questions about why the mayor would keep Godbee in his job given that Patterson is still working for the department.
Mark Zausmer, Evans' attorney, told The News today he tried in late July to get the former chief's job back or another role within the city's administration by sharing the texts Godbee sent to Lt. Monique Patterson in the fall when Evans was Detroit's top cop. Patterson used to date Godbee but now is in a relationship with Evans, Zausmer said.
Evans' attorneys met with Green, who oversees public safety for the mayor, and shared the messages sent using personal cellular telephones, Zausmer said.
The content of those messages haven't been released publicly but contain sexual and intimate comments, Zausmer said. Patterson's texts to Godbee's phone were not included. Godbee was serving as assistant chief under Evans when the messages were sent.
