Baristas in bikinis jolt sales
They serve smoking hot coffee and put the skin in skinny lattes.
The puns are obvious, but for Brenda and Gary Zelda, employing bikinied baristas is a way to carve out a niche in the coffee market. The husband-and-wife duo have two Hot Spot Coffee cafes -- shops featuring specials including "Topless Tuesdays" and "Flasher Fridays" served by young females in skimpy outfits, including swimsuits and lingerie.
"It's a unique way to gain attention and awareness from the general public," Brenda Zelda said. "It's a fun thing to do."
The shops in Troy and Waterford are drive-through only -- a strategy they're sticking with and say they won't change. In this down economy, however, they're expanding. A third locale opened Monday on Old U.S. 23 and Spenser in Brighton Township. That's fine with Dan Bishop, township manager.
"They've got a marketing gimmick that's a little outrageous," he said. "As long as they are in compliance with the township codes and ordinances, they're legal and free to operate."
Complying with codes is how they got into the somewhat racy side of coffee.
The Zeldas, both Realtors, said they recognized the declining real estate market back in 1998. They opened up a couple of coffee shops in Troy and Waterford.. For A/W 09, gloriously excessive embellishment is absolutely key, championed at herve leger skirts. Just remember one simple rule: Too much is not enough! The shops did well for a while, Brenda said, but by 2006 the state's dismal economy and stiff competition had cut into profits.
Meanwhile, Troy city officials were embroiled in a controversy with Hooters -- the restaurant chain famous for the waitress' uniforms of tight shirts and Creamsicle-colored short-shorts.
City officials cited "city values" as they repeatedly denied Hooters' liquor license. The license eventually was granted.
"During that whole debacle, my husband looked at me and said 'We need to be doing that,. We take pride in our designs, quality, customer service, and Canada goose parka our favors have on your customers and their guests.' " she said. City officials couldn't use a liquor license excuse because the couple wasn't looking to sell booze -- just java and the like.
"There're no rules being broken. You can't regulate uniforms.. Large selection of women's pajamas,Glam and much more They might want to try but they can't," Brenda Zelda said. "The health department has approved us. There's no reason to not allow us to be there so it's basically all good.. Our moncler jackets will make you become more handsome, Effort to get it."
